The Planet
Far across the sky, near the star Fomalhaut in the constellation of the Southern Fish, lies the planet Fomalautis — home of the Fomalaire, a people so advanced that their technology looks like magic beside ours.
The Fomalaire
The Fomalaire speak only through thought. To them, spoken language is primitive — and conflict is physically painful. For ages, when lesser species went to war, the Fomalaire simply ended them. Now they try something new: they force peace instead.
The Interpreters
A rare few humans can hear the Fomalaire’s thoughts and speak them aloud. They are called interpreters. When the Fomalaire needed new ones, they took four teenagers from a doomed airplane — and gave them an impossible job.
The Ambassadors
Each interpreter is bound to a Fomalaire ambassador: the ambitious Dandekar, the enormous and emotional Mergl, the dramatic Cassel… and a path that, for one interpreter, leads somewhere no one expects.
The Conflict
Two civilizations stand on the edge of war: the warrior Grutacians, mourning a fallen leader, and the Denatans, who have looted his tomb-ship. The interpreters have just forty-eight hours to negotiate peace — or both civilizations, and Earth, will be erased.
